Having gut issues can be horribly frustrating and I know the feeling. The healing diet may not be easy but having digestive problems isn't easy either! Below are some of the foods that have helped me on my healing journey. The most important thing I did (and still do) was to listen to what my body was telling me during this time. The body knows best!
Nutrient Dense Foods:
Vegetables: All welcomed!
Fruits: All welcomed just be mindful of the sugar content and limit as needed. Berries are especially healing and...I confess...my nickname was once Angberry...;)
Meats: All high quality welcomed. Focus on antibiotic free, hormone free. Grass fed for all beef and lamb. This is very important!
Fish and Shellfish: High omega 3 and natural iodine benefits (as long as no allergy). Wild is highly preferred.
Offal: Bone broth is very nourishing and healing! Do not be shy about eating the organs! Remember high quality like choosing your meats.
Fats: Fat nourishes every cell in your body so it can work better! Coconut oil, MCT oil, olive oil, avocado oil. These are great oils to start with. (stay away from vegetable oils as they are inflammatory)
Herbs: Wonderful way to add flavor and healing benefits! Basil, bay leaves, chives, lavender, mint, parsley, peppermint, rosemary, sage, and the list goes on….
Spices: Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, sea salt, turmeric and more…
Pantry and To-Go Snacks: Apple cider vinegar, arrowroot powder, coconut flour, Cassava Flour, olives, Tiger Nuts, canned fish (BPA free), Hemp seeds, Gelatin, Nori Snacks
Occasional sweeteners: Honey (local preferred), black strap molasses, dried fruit without added sugar, maple syrup (100% pure).
Fermented Foods: Kombucha, sauerkraut, Coconut Kefir, and more...
I cook 90-100% of my foods to give my digestive system a break from churning and breaking up raw foods. Also, I have a tendency to be cold so cooking my foods keeps me warmer and more energized. Traditional Chinese Medicine, Macrobiotics, and Ayurveda emphasizes cooking your food for healing as well. I encourage you to try it out and see how your body feels!
I love having soups available 24/7 and thank the wonderful Instantpot for this! This is a crockpot, pressure cooker, rice cooker, and yogurt maker all in one and is totally worth the price. Plus, it's stainless steel so you do not have to worry about getting harmful chemicals from your cookware.
Here is the vacuum sealed lunch box that we love!! A super convenient and efficient way to keep foods hot or cold longer without microwaves or refrigerators. It's made from stainless steel with vacuum insulation so your food never spills!
Do you need more help listening to your body's messages? I can help! Let me know what I can do for you!
